Each and every one of us live in a world where we have to sing for our supper. As artists, whether we are full time or part time in our artistic passions, has to find a way to pay the rent and put gas in our cars. On today’s episode, I have Elle Luna talking about the realities of being a working artist, how the concept of money can influence your work (or not influence), and when to know if monetization is a good idea or not.

For those of you who don’t know the ever talented Elle Luna — she is is a designer, painter, and writer. She is the instigator of The 100 Day Project, which is in full swing and making my Instagram feed SO incredibly beautiful.

She has previously worked as a designer at IDEO and with startups including Mailbox, Medium, and Uber. In 2013, Elle published an essay on Medium.com titled “The Crossroads of Should and Must,” which quickly went viral. Within weeks, it was Tweeted to over five million people and seen by over a quarter million readers. She grew her essay into a beautifully illustrated four color book which was published in 2015.

She now speaks to groups around the world, sharing the story of her book “The Crossroads of Should and Must,” and coaches creatives on choosing their must. She’s illustrated Aphrodite Emerges, which is a beautiful book by Susi Herrick.  Her she’s currently co-authoring her next book along with Susi Herrick.
